Foundation (Bridging the Gap)

As in all California public and charter schools, the International School of Monterey (ISM) relies of State funding to cover program costs. This funding is based on the number of students who attend classes each day and is called Average Daily Attendance (ADA).

Public schools, state-wide, have been forced to reduce and eliminate most elective classes and classroom support because the ADA funding received does not cover the additional costs for offering these classes. One feature of ISM that makes it excel is the fact that we continue to offer:

  • Classroom teaching assistants and specialists
  • Drama, fine arts and music for each student
  • Spanish language daily
  • Physical education

Additionally, the entire learning experience at ISM is based on experiential learning. So, in addition to offering a learning platform that inspires students to engage in learning, we also offer highly enhanced resources to provide an academically rich and challenging curriculum. No wonder ISM is such a sought after school!

In order to continue offering these programs, the ISM Foundation is challenged with bridging the gap between what the State provides in ADA and what it costs to offer our programs. Through the ISM Board of Directors and Administration, we ensure that our costs are reduced wherever possible. However, the annual gap for this year is $350,000.

The ISM Foundation focuses on three major efforts to bridge the funding gap:

  • Family Fair Share ($538,500)
  • Grants ($75,000)
  • Annual Auction and dinner dance ($50,000)

Family Fair Share – 100% family participation

As the name implies, we ask that all families contribute financially to the maximum extent possible. Our goal is for each family to participate; whether it is at a $5 level or at a $5,000 level. The level of contribution is expected to vary by the financial circumstances of each family; however, we hope that everyone will contribute generously. The suggested contribution level is $1,500 per student. (Compare this to the $15,000 price tag for private education!)

During our annual pledge drive each August, the Foundation seeks to secure either a single annual pledge or a pledge for monthly payments from each family.

One time contributions can be made by check, credit card or on-line through PayPal.

Monthly payment options include on-line bill payment or monthly credit card charges. For alternate pledge options, click here.

Other ways to contribute financially (remember it is all tax deductible) include:
