Grants

Apr 18, 2012 1-062.JPGThe ISM staff regularly develops and submits grant requests to philanthropic foundations, corporations, community groups, and government agencies. The resulting grant awards help bridge the gap between state funding and ISM's targeted total investment per student. ISM specifically asks outside organizations to contribute grant funds on behalf of the many ISM families who cannot afford to cover the full funding gap through their own financial contributions to ISM.

Current Foundation Grants

ISM thanks the following current year grantors for their support of our school. We could not succeed without them!

The William McCaskey Chapman & Adaline Dinsmore Chapman Foundation has awarded ISM a $39,000 grant in support of Spanish and math instructor salaries. This generous matching grant required that the ISM Foundation raise $39,000 in donations from ISM families and others in order to receive the dollar for dollar matching amount. Our families and friends actually contributed $45,505 by our self-imposed deadline of September 15, 2015. The combination of Family Share contributions and the philanthropy of the Chapman Foundation over the past several years ensure that ISM can teach Spanish to every student from kindergarten to eighth grade and deliver an enhanced math program that develops skills students can count on.

The Monterey Peninsula Foundation, host of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, has awarded ISM a $25,000 grant in support of Hands-On Real-World Learning Experiences that maximize student learning and enrich the overall student experience. These experiences include our Schoolwide Enrichment Model, fieldtrips and on-campus events, middle-years sports program, and student projects and competitions like science fair and history day. This grant continues ongoing generous financial support from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation that included last year's Charity Match and #FlatClint campaign.

The Pebble Beach Company Foundation has awarded ISM a $5,000 grant to help cover the costs of providing English and Spanish literacy supports for all students and low-income and English Learner students in particular. These grant funds help us employ four instructional aides to conduct individual assessment and deliver small group instruction.

Arts Council for Monterey County logoThe Arts Council for Monterey County has awarded ISM a $4,000 grant in support of our performing arts program thanks to support from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors. This grant allows us to integrate arts education into our curriculum where it positively impacts academic achievement, social and emotional development, and civic engagement for all students. Research also shows that strong arts programming helps close the achievement gap for underserved populations.

For the fifth year in a row, ISM has been selected to participate in the Monterey County Gives! campaign sponsored by the Monterey County Weekly Community Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County. This campaign will provide matching grant funds based on the amount raised by ISM during our annual Holiday Fund Drive and through the Monterey County Gives! online site.

The Big Sur International Marathon awards two grants to ISM each year in recognition of our family volunteers staffing aide stations at both the Big Sur International Marathon and the Big Sur Half Marathon. The most recent grant totaled $1,800 for classroom materials. BSIM pays double dividends by providing a meaningful volunteer opportunity where our students and their parents work together as well as grant monies that keep our teachers from having to dip into their own pockets to buy classroom supplies.

The Gilbert M. Neill Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County has awarded $2,500 to ISM to support math activities such as Mathletics, teaching incentives, and materials to make math more interesting. This consistent annual support has helped make our math instruction both fun and meaningful across all grades K-8.

The Yellow Brick Road Benefit Shop has awarded ISM $1,600 toward general support of our PE program, an important component of our full-spectrum curriculum.
