2008 County History Data and Science Fair Competitions

During the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, March 8th and 9th, ISM students in 5th, 6th, and 8th grades participated in County competitions; 5th graders in the Monterey County History Day competition coordinated by the Lyceum of Monterey County and the Monterey County Office of Education, and 6th and 8th graders in the 2008 Monterey County Science Fair also sponsored by the Monterey County Office of Education.

We are thrilled to announce that ISM students took top honors in both competitions and once again, positioned ISM as one of the County's highest achieving schools -- public or private -- in competitions dependent on inquiry, research, project boards, and presentation! We congratulate all of the participants for their hard work and efforts.

We would especially like to highlight the competition winners below:

2008 Monterey County Spelling Bee:
- Neeli Tummala ( Gr. 6) earns 3rd place in County Spelling Bee.

At the conclusion of the Monterey County spelling bee championship held March 2nd at Hartnell College, 6th grader Neeli Tummala prevailed over 35 other competitors to place 3rd in the county-wide event!  She correctly spelled the words:  chocolate, plateau, praline, provolone, coyote, notochord, cilantro, tsunami, Wagnerian, and lastly, apparatchi.  Neeli earned her spot at the County competition by winning the ISM middle school spelling bee held earlier last month.  We are extremely proud of Neeli's accomplishment in this event!
